Building Confidence in Weakness
“Mom, I just can’t think right. I’m just not good at this math.”
Self-defeating talk from my oldest.

I grabbed Betsy (trusty Mac Laptop), what was left of my pride and the warden opened the door to the sunshine.
It cut like a knife.
I hadn’t seen the sun in THREE WHOLE DAYS.
But that’s the sneakyness of these childhood maladies… they’ll lurk and trick you into thinking they’re gone. I started to feel the “crud” at the beginning of last week and I just shuddered. It was aggressive and swift and didn’t seem to care about my usual concoction of over-the-counter drugs and vitamins.

He nodded a sleepy smile and reached out his arms to hug me.
For every bit of destruction and chaos this child leaves in his wake, his heart is big enough to cover all of it.
Sam sauntered into the kitchen with his usual swagger.
“Hey mom, so we talked about an artist in art class today.”
My interest was piqued: “Oh really? Tell me about it.”
So there I was. My company let me go to try to stay afloat and I did what I do best: Picked up my oar and started paddling to shore.
I dusted off my resume and began applying for jobs.
