Tonight was an impromptu date night. And for having a 7, 5, 3 and 1 year old… that’s a pretty hefty feat we pulled off.
It was also special because it was the first night we had gone out, by ourselves IN A YEAR AND A HALF.

I would consider myself a fairly competent “Jack of all trades,” but I know my limitations. I barely know how to fix my own hair, much less lay scissors to another human’s head.
After he was finished he said loudly for no one’s ears but my own, “Ok, I’m finished. But, ahhh, I want to hunt for eggs too. So…. who’s going to hide them?”
I looked at him over my glasses. “Mom’s making lunch.”
Hiding Easter eggs and making pretty candy baskets were not at the top of my fun list of things to do. Screw you, you dumb bunny. Now you make me stay up even later. I was so tired I didn’t even want to picture my kids’ faces when they saw the Easter Basket. Bunny and Santa… you’d better hide because there’s one pissed off mom who does NOT need one more thing to do.
Me: “Oh sure Josh- no problem at all! We can hide the eggs all over the neighborhood if you want.”
Josh: “What to you mean, ‘We?’ I thought the Easter Bunny hid them?”
Me: “Um.”
Me: “Well…”
Me: “I could give the Easter Bunny a call and see if he’d hide them outside for you guys.”
The dinner table is a gourmet recipe for serving up some character. Now that I’m a parent, I understand why such an emphasis has been placed on eating dinners together. Ours looks pretty haphazard these days. We have boys randomly falling out of their chair at least once a meal.
We went on all of our dates in that car. We brought home our first child in that car. We stuffed two dogs in that car and drove all over creation. Here’s the kicker:
WE STILL HAVE THAT CAR.
OK mamas, gather round in a circle and huddle in close.

How do we want it?
FOR ALL OUR KIDS TO RUN TO US AND HUG US AND ASK US FOR HELP!!!!
