While bathing J tonight, one of the cats was lurking around the tub perimeter. She must have misjudged her jump because before I know it, the cat was floating in the tub with a very delighted 14-month-old. I should charge admission.
So I was in the movie theater with my dear husband on a much needed-date and as usual, I was making gesticulations and facial expressions at the screen. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone laughing at a part that’s not supposed to be funny. He was totally dying just watching me! I grinned a huge grin and thought, this is when most normal people would shrink into their seat in abject embarrassment. But my embarrassment button is totally broken. It broke back when I was like, born. I relish my idiosyncrasies. Which means, my kids are doomed to have the most embarrassing mom on the planet.
Today, I cleaned up dog puke and kid puke. I’m really hoping the cats will leave me a hairball because that would complete the circle of irony and I could go to sleep a happy woman.
To the mom in the Albertson’s parking lot: You saw the moment my son grabbed my starbucks cup and spilled it all over himself and the groceries and you didn’t turn away. You saw me stand there with a look of shock on my face as I tried to figure out my next move. You heard my son erupt into tears of shock and frustration and you did not go about your business. You walked right up to us and said, “Here, you take care of your son and I’ll load your groceries.” You pushed past my embarrassment and the yelling and smiled at me. “It’s going to be ok. It’s not the last time he’ll spill your coffee.” I could have cried. Thank you for getting involved in my mess and making it yours. Thank you for showing me grace. Thank you dear lady. May I turn right around and do the same for every single person I meet.
Me to Dave: “You know what I really feel like right now? Pizza.”
Dave: “Really? That sounds good! We should order some!”
Me: “But we’ve already eaten dinner.”
Dave: “I’ll be up for awhile and I’m super hungry.”
Me: “But it’s 10 at night.”
Both: “But Pizza is SOOO good.”
I feel like we’re in college. But then I remember we have a baby asleep in the next room. And some mortgages. Screw it. PIIIIZZZZZAAAAAA
