Tonight we read “Everybody Poops” to Joshua for the first time. Besides giggling (the parents) the whole way through it, I thought it a delightfully written and illustrated catharsis of a natural bodily function. Poop will never cease to be funny.
So, I went out this morning to let the dogs out in the backyard. It was early and half dark and I was only partially clothed. You know, it’s my own backyard and we have cement block fence. Then I look up and see a hot air balloon no more than 100 feet above our house. So much for privacy. I hope they took pictures.
Me to Dave: “Hey, I can drive back down (from Flag to Phx)- you know I love driving.”
Dave to me: “No, no, don’t worry about it, I got it.”
Me: “But I really want to drive. It’s so much fun.”
Dave: *Silence*
Me: *Silence*
Me: “You’re scared to death of my driving, right?”
Dave: *Silence*
Dave: “I was trying to figure out a nice way of saying it.”
I love forcing the honesty in marriage. :-p
Last night, we went out to dinner. The dinner lasted an hour and fifteen minutes. Neither of us had to get up and juggle the infant. He sat quietly in his high chair. We had adult conversation and witty repartee. We may have even flirted. “How could this be,” you ask? Do I have an abnormally placid child? No. He hates being strapped in places and is always on the move. Did he have a great nap? Yes, he did, but that never makes any difference. He always breaks down right about the time we want to go out to dinner. Did we just get lucky? No way. We’re always on the wrong side of Murphy’s law. Do you want to know the secret? Huh, do you? Cheerios. One at a time. Stretched out across the dinner. Little circles of carbohydrate goodness. Dave said “It’s like we discovered his Kyrptonite.” We laughed manically as we sat smugly and watched the little boy grab each piece with his index finger and thumb and drool all over his bib. He grinned up at us, proud of his ability to feed himself. And do you know how we celebrated such a monumental achievement? We fed him more cheerios of course.
I’m already recognizing that my little boy is a very independent spirit… much like his mother. *Cue the peanut gallery* I choose to celebrate this and the challenges that may come. May God give me joy and patience.
