Today’s morning brother fights are brought to you by “I want to get on the stool and see the empty pot on the stove” and “He’s trying to take my potholder.” Serenity now.

At In N Out this afternoon:
“Give me all the fries you have.”
“But Sam, shouldn’t we save some for your brother when he wakes up?”
Sam: “No.”
Overheard today as I wiped J’s nose: NO, STOP MOM! Those are MY boogers!
Yeah… I know. You cheffy-types are rolling your eyes right now. But let me tell you something: I have seen the top of the mountain, and it is good. And it is covered with a thick, rich hollandaise sauce that has been created in the microwave in two minutes flat. Behold: microwave liquid gold.

I am a SUCKER for a good tortilla soup with all the fixin’s. It is right up there with a homemade chicken soup in my book. The creaminess of the avocado combined with the acid of the tomatoes and richness of the beans. If you want to put this over the top, grill your corn Mexican-street-corn style and cut it off the cob for the soup. Also, add chipotles or jalapenos depending on your preference and tolerance for heat. I just throw cilantro in there by the fistful because my husband and I are kind of cilantro freaks. My three-year-old just tried it for the first time and he declared it was “yummy” as he snarfed down the peppers, onions and other amazingly healthy fare. I just chuckled to myself, and rubbed my hands together as he played right into my hands.
